Former Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer and Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt appeared on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos to discuss President Trump’s executive order tightening mail-in voting rules ahead of the 2026 midterms, which both say a court is likely to block.

While Richer acknowledges Trump's political impulses, he argued that Arizona has very little fraud and already uses many of the election-security features he wants nationwide, including proof-of-citizenship requirements and ballot-tracking technology.

Recent analysis from the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, showed that in the 2020 election more than 3.4 million ballots were cast in Arizona. Among those, only two cases of voter fraud occurred.

Schmidt and Richer both warn that the order could deepen confusion and distrust around elections.
