A Harvard Kennedy School Ash Center panel discussion March 26 titled, Digital Coup: The Attack on Democracy You Didn’t See, explains how actions by the Department of Government Efficiency in early 2025 amount to a 'digital coup,' a hijacking of digital systems, data access, and surveillance that can rewrite important information, create uncertainty, enable mis- and disinformation, and undermine democracy.
The panel featured former USAID staff Bryce Carpenter and Chris Doten, speaking for the Democracy Renewal Group, and was moderated by Samantha Power of Harvard Law.
