Peter J. Hotez, MD, PhD, is the founding dean of The National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, as well as director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development. He is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine of National Academies as well as the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. A pediatrician and an expert in vaccine science and tropical disease, Hotez has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and editorials as well dozens of textbook chapters.

Dr. Hotez plans to discuss his newly released book The Deadly Rise of Anti-Science: A Scientist's Warning and address the continued dissemination of unscientific, anti-science narratives spreading throughout today's media landscape, including two well-documented cases involving podcaster Joe Rogan and anti-vaccine politico Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

With his trademark bowtie and unparalleled depth of vaccine knowledge, Dr. Hotez appeared nearly daily throughout the COVID-19 pandemic on major news networks such as NBC, NPR, the BBC, and others. He is regarded as a national hero for his ongoing work as a preeminent vaccine researcher and proponent of truth in science.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Sherine Gabriel, the Executive Vice President of ASU Health and Professor of the Future of Health Outcomes and Medicine in the College of Health Solutions, and is presented at no charge to the public.
